Morpheus: Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.
We now have a Blog!
>Does that conversion program run in DOS or in Windows?
You must do it while booted from a DOS floppy, it will refuse to run any other way.
It can not be undone with out a FDISK/REFORMAT of the hard drive.
I've used the cvtfat32.exe files on several machines with out any problem to convert up to the FAT32 that uses 4K clusters instead of 32K clusters. I've had no problems, but make *SURE* you have a backup in case YOU have a problem with it.
I don't think this program will work if your hard disk is smaller than 1G.
You need to make a bootable floppy with the following stuff on it, get the files from the \WINDOWS\ or \WINDOWS\COMMAND\ directory:
command.com
HIMEM.SYS
EMM386
SCANDISK
Here are the needed AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS:
CONFIG.SYS:
FILES=30
BUFFERS=30
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
::
REM Use what ever you use for EMM386 in your own CONFIG.SYS:
::
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=C000-CBFF
AUTOEXEC.BAT:
PATH=A:\
If your system requires some thing else you'll have to add them as needed.
Boot from this floppy then run the CVT.EXE, it will prompt you from there.
I found this program on the WEB a long time ago and that site is not around any more, I don't know its origins beyond that, if it royally screws up your machine, I'm sorry but you where warned to make BACKUPS!
The only warrantee it has is that I can say its worked for me every time I've used it with no problems. YOU however are completely on your own.
WARNING DON'T USE THIS WITH OUT MAKING A BACKUP!

If hyperspace navigators get paid by the hour, then what is the pay-scale in a place where time has no meaning?
